Jungle Fever

A jungle cannot be caged. Whenever you think you have it tamed, it grows right on back. What is wild will always be wild. Tropical islands are tropical because of the rain. Torrents of the stuff floods the fields through many months so that the place oozes with green. Every inch of Bali is itching to become jungle again. It might be what adds so much magic to this place. Well, the people are insanely friendly too. And the surf. Lots of things now. Everyone knows how to make a good latte, that’s a plus..but back to what I was talking about.

I’ve been in Ubud for the last few days. I thought it would be the most jungle scene around, but after staying in Uluwatu and Canggu now, I can tell the island is alive—and growing. There are temples on every corner with moss and monkeys crawling all over. Everything feels rugged and ancient. It’s like walking through the Amazon to find some lost city, but it’s here and now. And it’s littered with motorbikes and wifi. Who would have thought?

Ubud been magical. Right behind the stores are oasis of yoga huts and swimming pools. Exotic fruits and coconuts are for sale everywhere you look. Smiles and warm sunshine flow down while the birds chirp in the background. I see you Bali. Just what I needed to disconnect, yet I’m still writing on here. But writing is my passion, my connection, my outlet. It’s becoming like breathing at this point.

Write it all down now. You’ll forget later. You’ll be glad you did. Here’s my open diary.

Who knew all the rice paddy’s I sought were gonna be in Bali and not in Vietnam? The colors of this place just pop off the page. I swear it looks like this in real life. HD VISION.

They make you wear sarongs so everyone looks much less out of place, except all the tourist wear the same sarong so it’s easy to spot 😝.

Screw it, sometimes playing dress up is fun and harmless.

My key to my homestay is quite fitting for a Vespa shop.

THE MOST BEAUTIFUL FEELING TODAY 🦋🪧

That’s the stuff.

Is someone truly sending messages with pigeons?!

Blending in.

Mount Agung in the back 🌋

For $2 I bought 6 lychee, 2 mangosteen and 3 whatever the armadillo is. That would have cost me $23 in Hawaii 🤓🤓🤓 (rough estimate, could be more)

Gimme the loot

$1.85

BUT ITS IN A CAN!

Starting to feel normal at this point. They talk about guys wearing dresses to make statements in fashion, but guys been wearing sarongs..

It looked like an experience to get drenched in the holy water, but the line said otherwise. Not my religion, it’ll be okay. The photo feels good enough.

Monkey Forest was a hit. Many more photos on my DSLR.

Boys will be boys..

This is what every street in Bali looks like and it’s kinda insane.

Saw ribs, must eat ribs. Delicious!

Thank you Lisa and Leva for bringing back my book! It means the world!

About time to finish this book before my trip is over. Perfect timing. Poetry is about irony right? And life is poetry?

And my first post card IVE RECEIVED since starting this trip tucked inside! So cool! 🥰
